about
Who I am
As a conservator specialising in modern materials and media, I focus on artworks created from around 1850 to the present day.
My background as a carpenter allows me to blend craftsmanship with conservation.

After completing my studies in Bern and Vienna, I gained experience at the Museum of Modern Art (mumok) in Vienna and the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) in Zurich. I later worked for an international art shipping company, handling the packing, transport, installation, and condition reporting of various artworks.

In 2019, I took the step of founding art services Illi Ltd. This venture enables me to offer independent consulting to my clients and provide tailored solutions to meet their needs.
What I provide
I possess extensive knowledge of techniques in both modern and contemporary art, covering a wide range of materials. In addition to paintings, I work on three-dimensional objects such as sculptures, assemblages, and entire (spatial) installations.
Due to their variety of concepts and materials, contemporary works in particular require different methods and perspectives than the conservation of moren traditional artworks. Expertise, combined with extensive visual experience, is essential to distinguish between inherent traces of production and actual damage — not every seemingly unsettling mark necessarily indicates harm.

During exhibition installations and deinstallations, I support institutions with the conservation oversight of artworks and loans. My background as a carpenter and art handler allows me to work closely and supportively with on-site teams.

How I opperate
After six years of "mobile working," I am excited to open my own conservation studio in Aarau starting in May 2025. The bright, spacious room offers ideal conditions for working on a wide range of artworks. Visits are welcome by appointment.

For large projects in (museum) collections, I will continue to work on-site across Switzerland as needed. I am professionally equipped and bring everything necessary with me. Thanks to my central location – with residence in Aarau and a business address in Zurich – all Swiss cities are easily accessible for me.

As an independent conservator, I work with museums, collections, galleries, insurance companies, and private clients, always ensuring that the artworks remain the focus of my objective assessments and treatments.
